Our Fearless Leaders: Erica, left and Dale. The problem with many of my photos is that the sun is so bright you everything looks washed out, or, in this case, touched by a Heavenly Light From Above. All of our FL were very nice, and just deferential enough to let you know they were being nice because, in part, they were nice people, but also because they were getting paid to do a job they really liked. Erica was like a much hardier Sandra Bullock, while Dale -- scraggly of beard usually behaved -- had Jeff Daniels' voice from The Big Leibowski. He would sit back in his chair with one long leg folded impossibly casually over the other, both at about shoulder-height, with one hand on the motor and the other clutching a Gatorade bottle full of spat-out sunflower seeds, which he chewed and spat out all day. Once, I turned and noticed the bottle was getting too full. He stuck his fingers in and mashed them down, making more room.
