And so, I decided to go to Falmouth rather than resume the walking. (Not like it was a glorious day anyhow; it threatened rain for a good portion, and I'd just about had it with fields and potentially threatening cows. Stop laughing. Heh.) It was a good idea, because the sun did come out later and the town of Falmouth has at least one good day of touring in it. When the car came to pick up my luggage in the morning from Landrivick I just hopped in and had a nice chat with the driver. It was about a half hour's drive, more or less, from there to Falmouth, and once there I checked in early at the Carmelle Lodge Hotel (which for some reason on this site is called the "Lugo Rock Hotel"), which helpfully already had a room ready at 10:30 am. It was also only a block or so from the beach, so after unloading I just decided to go walking. Nothing nicer than having all day to explore, no one particular place to be, and knowing you have a decent sum of cash on you if you fall in love with something and want to splurge. After scouting the beach (and getting another sand sample) I caught sight of the Pendennis Castle (last picture in the distance) and decided it was worth checking out. What's a trip to England without at least one castle visit? |
