If you squint, you can see that Porthleven is still over three miles away, which is not exactly the sign you want to see after you've been walking all day (note the quality of light in the Rinsey head pictures and these ones of old mining shafts at left; clearly, the sun has shifted in the sky, though it won't be full dark until nearly 10:30). In any case, that still means only another hour on the path, so goody for me. I call that a well-marked path. There were far too few of those posts around for my liking, frankly. As I understand it, the chimney and building ruins (which were bee-infested, so I didn't get too close) were part of the Wheal Prosper engine house, part of the Wheal Prosper tin mine. Wonder if they had some Jews working it or not. Probably did. The slight white bits in the distance in this last photo are my goal: Porthleven. And while it's kind of neat to see it in the distance, what you really want to do at this point is just freakin' get there, not wind around the coast another hour or more. But there's no other options, so off we go.... |
