A few blocks from the Georgian, the fabled palm trees of England. OK, so they're not quite Beverly Hills palm trees, but they are the genuine articles. The winds make this place very temperate, and some of the vegetation I came across in the following days would seem to fit better fit in the jungles of Guatemala than in your stereotypical English weather. That said, they're having a heat wave for the second time in a few years and who knows? Thanks to global warming, all of England could become very valuable beachfront property in the next decade or so.

Took these pictures in, of all things, a church courtyard (St. Mary's, as it turns out). Couldn't get a good angle on the church itself, so now it's completely absent. But I liked these headstones at left; I didn't know anyone ever had the real last name of "Fudge," I thought it was just a made up thing from a Happy Mondays song.
