Behind The Scenes of Ivy's Second Video, "Lucy Doesn't Love You"
B.B. King's, NYC - September 30, 2000
Ivy and friends all gathered at B.B. King's restaurant on 42nd Street in New York City on September 30, 2000 early in the morning -- and Adam spent the day directing Dominique ("act bored!") and Andy and himself playing in front of two novice trumpet players and two "backup" singers in go-go boots. The high concept? Dominique's a diva who doesn't want to come out and sing -- and so she doesn't, throughout the whole song she just stands there in front of the mic doing everything but sing, except for one line. Peter Buckley, Ivy Viner of the First Degree was there bright and early to watch the proceedings, and here was his take on what went down:

From: "Peter Buckley"
Subject: Video Shoot for "Lucy Doesn't Love You"

Well, it looks like apart from Randee, I was the only other Ivy Viner to make it to the shoot. I did bring my wife and 2 friends visiting from France. It was a great time. We arrived right at 8:00 AM as requested and found the stage hands busy setting up the stage.
The shoot was in BB Kings club on W. 42nd street in Times Square. A beautiful club, very big, with great acoustics. We settled into a booth and watched as they put up sparkly things and set up the drum kit. I pointed out the Ivy band members to my companions. At one point Andy and Dominique were off by themselves so I approached and said hello. Dominique recognized me and I asked them to say hello to my friends, which they did immediately. They were quite gracious. I asked about the Paco CD and Dominique went and got 2 copies which they gave to me for free! Andy said it was the least they could for coming down for the shoot. Very Cool.
At this point Randee came over to us. I had seen her off sitting by the others and wasn't sure it was her or not. It was! We all had a great time just hanging out with our Ivyvine Mistress. My friends from France were quite excited and were taking pictures of the shoot and all. They promise to send me copies when they get them developed.
Soon the stage was ready and we heard "Lucy Doesn't Love You" spilling out of the speakers. Great Song! Viners will not be disappointed! Anyway, the basic premise of the video is that Dominique is a Diva who doesn't want to participate in this shoot so they show her acting all Diva-like, and when she does come on stage she isn't singing (even though you hear her in the playback). She lip-synchs 1 line about not being happy and then just goes back to standing there and sulking. She had some great facial expressions that cracked us up at some points. It was fun to watch Adam direct the video shoot.
Apparently this video is being done for the Japanese market and so probably won't make it to US soil anytime soon. I did ask Dominique to reserve a copy for us when it was completed.
Unfortunately, time was running late and my friends had to get going, so we never got to hang around to be in any crowd shots for the video, but just being there was a thrill. Our thanks to Randee and Ivy for the opportunity! Oh and thanks for the doughnuts too!

Adam in stripes gives direction to the would-be trumpeters as Dom (in halter) listens in and Andy (in foreground) keeps an eye on things...

Dominique practices her ennui as Andy
jams on the right;  the backup singers
do a go-go routine....

Smmmmmmokin'!....

Andy takes direction and plays it cool while under the glare of the spotlight.

Dominique's got the boredom down pat ... dig Adam's Farfisa!
(And on far right, look through the camera lens.)

The happy couple take a break from the cameras.
